Fort Vancouver High School
One of MIKE’s newest partnerships began in May 2026 with Fort Vancouver High School (FVHS), Center for International Studies, in Vancouver, Washington. FVHS serves around 1,500 students in the eastern region of the city, reporting that nearly 75% are low-income with diverse backgrounds. The school emphasizes preparation for students to think globally who are college-career-and life-ready.
MIKE coordinated with FVHS Science Teacher Colleen Dunegan to introduce specialized programming to two of her Allied Health classes. MIKE developed a pilot program that expanded curriculum covered in the school's Medical Arts Choice Program. MIKE interacted with the students through presentations and activities that delved into the exploration of health inequities and outcome variables. The pilot content aligned with the work students were developing for research projects of their own. The success of the pilot program has built a foundation on which to establish MIKE's full mentored health programming during the 2026-2027 school year.
