David Douglas High School Summer Program
MIKE provided health education classes for students who needed summer school at David Douglas High School. MIKE brought in specialized guest speakers to present information about a variety of healthcare career options during the summer sessions.
MIKE hosted guest speakers, including Amy Engilis, Career and Academic Planning Coach at George Fox University (and a member of MIKE’s Board of Directors). Other speakers included Martin Lewis of the Oregon Dairy Council, Debbie Kho of SkinSense Spa.

Elevate Oregon
MIKE created and presented lively hands-on health education lessons for summer programming with Elevate Oregon. Programming centered on middle school students at Alice Ott and Floyd Light Middle Schools in East Portland.
Teacher/Mentor Jessica Ruiz Rodriguez (pictured on left) and other Elevate Oregon staff/teachers took part with the students in nutrition and health sessions and healthcare career exploration stations.

Heatherington College of Osteopathic Medicine
What began as a lunchtime health club for Sweet Home High School students has grown into fully embedded health education sessions with first and second-year medical students at the Heatherington College of Osteopathic Medicine (formerly the Western University of Health Sciences, COMP-NW).
In addition to dozens of medical students volunteering their time for MIKE’s programming in Sweet Home, students at the Western University College of Physical Therapy are also volunteering to mentor students.

Warner Pacific University
MIKE Program is partnering with the Warner Pacific University (WPU), Department of Nursing, for an innovative training and service project for 9th graders at De La Salle North Catholic High School (DLSNC) for Fall 2021. The WPU nursing students are joining MIKE to mentor the entire 9th grade in DLSNC’s health classes to inspire healthier behaviors.
