David Douglas High School Summer Program

MIKE provided health education classes for students who needed summer school at David Douglas High School. MIKE brought in specialized guest speakers to present information about a variety of healthcare career options during the summer sessions.
MIKE hosted guest speakers, including Amy Engilis, Career and Academic Planning Coach at George Fox University (and a member of MIKE’s Board of Directors). Other speakers included Martin Lewis of the Oregon Dairy Council, Debbie Kho of SkinSense Spa.
Elevate Oregon

MIKE created and presented lively hands-on health education lessons for summer programming with Elevate Oregon. Programming centered on middle school students at Alice Ott and Floyd Light Middle Schools in East Portland.
Teacher/Mentor Jessica Ruiz Rodriguez (pictured on left) and other Elevate Oregon staff/teachers took part with the students in nutrition and health sessions and healthcare career exploration stations.
Heatherington College of Osteopathic Medicine

What began as a lunchtime health club for Sweet Home High School students has grown into fully embedded health education sessions with first and second-year medical students at the Heatherington College of Osteopathic Medicine (formerly the Western University of Health Sciences, COMP-NW).
In addition to dozens of medical students volunteering their time for MIKE’s programming in Sweet Home, students at the Western University College of Physical Therapy are also volunteering to mentor students.
Warner Pacific University

MIKE Program is partnering with the Warner Pacific University (WPU), Department of Nursing, for an innovative training and service project for 9th graders at De La Salle North Catholic High School (DLSNC) for Fall 2021. The WPU nursing students are joining MIKE to mentor the entire 9th grade in DLSNC’s health classes to inspire healthier behaviors.

The Autzen Foundation

Funding Purpose: Expanding health education for health equity.
About: Since 1951, The Autzen Foundation has been supporting charitable work that makes Oregon a better place. Thomas J. Autzen, who helped lead the way for Oregon’s plywood industry, established the foundation with his son Thomas Edward Autzen. The foundation awards grants to social service, arts and culture, educational, and youth-centered organizations.
The Collins Foundation

Funding Purpose: Addressing health outcomes and inequities in vulnerable populations.
About: The Collins Foundation was founded in 1947 by four members of the Collins family. The purpose of the Foundation is to operate and use its funds exclusively for charitable, educational, literary, scientific, or religious purposes.
The Ford Family Foundation

Funding Purpose: Support rural health education.
About: The Ford Family Foundation is a private, non-profit foundation that provides funding to public charities and agencies predominantly benefiting rural communities in Oregon and Siskiyou County, California, to improve the wellbeing of children, families and communities.
The Franz Bakery Foundation

Funding Purpose: Supporting MIKE’s mentored health education programming.
About: The Franz Bakery Foundation believes in the importance of supporting our communities. Our Foundation is committed to helping build an environment of respect, equity and inclusion for all. We recognize the value of diversity and know that we all do better when everyone in our communities are thriving. The Franz Bakery Foundation helps local organizations make a positive, impactful difference.
Juan Young Trust

Funding Purpose: Supporting mentors to introduce high school students to careers in healthcare and related fields.
About: Since 2000, Juan Young Trust has funded grants to Oregon nonprofits for projects and activities enhancing the health, education and welfare of Oregon children under the age of 21 years old.
Juliet Ashby Hillman Foundation

Funding Purpose: Help youth thrive with mentored health education.
About: The Juliet Ashby Hillman Foundation is investing in a healthier, happier future for all, especially children and young adults in the Portland metro area. The JAH Foundation works to cultivate a healthier, more culturally vibrant, environmentally sustainable, and economically stable future for the Portland region.
Kaiser Permanente Gives

Funding Purpose: support mentored health education in underserved Schools.
About: Providing high-quality, affordable health care services since 1945, Kaiser Permanente is broadening and accelerating our efforts to address the root causes of health such as access to care, economic opportunity, equity, housing, nutrition, mental health and wellness, pandemic response, safe and supportive schools, and social health.
Legacy Health Community Benefit Grant

Funding Purpose: Expanding mentored health education and infrastructure, and supporting MIKE’s first executive director.
About: Legacy Health’s vision is to be essential to the health of the region. “Our legacy is good health for our people, our communities, our world.” Legacy Health remains committed to a mission and commitment to the community through its partnerships in Oregon and SW Washington.
Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation

Funding Purpose: Expanding mentored health education and programming.
About: The Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation supports and empowers nonprofits financially, creatively, strategically; nurturing human connection, learning, healing, and joy. We value and empower those involved to yield ongoing positive outcomes, alleviate human suffering, and promote thriving communities.
Oregon Community Foundation

Funding Purpose: Expanding mentored health education and programming.
About: The Oregon Community Foundation puts donated money to work in Oregon–more than $100 million in grants and scholarships annually. Since 1973, OCF grantmaking, research, advocacy and community-advised solutions have helped individuals, families, businesses, and organizations create charitable funds to improve lives for all Oregonians. OCF donors responded to the magnitude of need, as reflected in a 44% increase in donor advised fund grantmaking from the previous year, including the Fred W. Fields Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation.
PacificSource Foundation for Health Improvement

Funding Purpose: Expanding mentored health education and programming.
About: The PacificSource Foundation for Health Improvement provides resources and funds to assist charitable programs and initiatives that address the healthcare needs of children and youth, as well as adults who have barriers to care in communities served by PacificSource Health Plans.
Mario & Alma Pastega Family Foundation

Funding Purpose: Supporting mentored health education programming.
About: Mario and Alma Pastega Family Foundation is a private foundation in Corvallis, OR, founded in 1998. Pastega's philanthropic efforts were recognized in 2004 when Pastega received the Oregon Philanthropy Award and in 2009 when he received the Oregon Ethics in Business Award.
Roundhouse Foundation

Funding Purpose: Mentored health education in rural schools
About: The Roundhouse Foundation is a private, family foundation, based in Sisters, Oregon since 2002. The Foundation believes that solutions to the unique challenges of Oregon’s rural communities can be found through creative thinking and problem solving, innovation and collaboration. We partner with community organizations to develop, implement and sustain creative, place-based approaches and programs that strengthen and celebrate rural Oregon.
Spirit Mountain Community Fund

Funding Purpose: Supporting mentored health education in underserved schools
About: The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, through the Spirit Mountain Community Fund, supports efforts that address the health, education and social needs of Oregonians, primarily in underserved communities. We invest in the achievements of our youth and assist with removing obstacles preventing those successes. By promoting equity and diversity, we embody our belief that all Oregonians can flourish together when we understand our shared and unique history. We honor and promote tribal sovereignty and culture by aiding in their restoration, preservation and protection now through seven generations.
